We're so excited to introduce another 2023 Grantee
We're so excited to introduce another 2023 Grantee: Ballew Estates LLC.
.
A 27-acre, fifth-generation, multi-generational farm in Richmond, KY, Ballew Estates grows fruit, berries, vegetables, herbs, & seeds. They also produce medicinal herbs & honey for sale & frequently host educational workshops, retreats, tours, & school/community pollinator projects.
.
Farmer Jim Embry is a noted permaculture expert, Slow Food proponent, & was named a 2023 James Beard Foundation Leadership Award Winner. They will use their grant to purchase additional beehives, add new varieties of native pollinator mixes, install a combined solar & wind generating system to provide power for their micro-irrigation system & to their bee house, AND more.

Meet another 2023 FruitGuys Community Fund Grantee
Meet another 2023 FruitGuys Community Fund Grantee: Global One Urban Farming!
.
Global One is a 1.5-acre, non-profit farm in Kansas City, MO that produces & distributes free organic vegetables to seniors, veterans, & low-income families with the goal of raising health levels throughout Kansas City. Their team converts unused urban land into sustainable organic community vegetable gardens. They have also partnered with the Kansas City School District to teach urban farming. 🌎🌱 
.
With their grant, they will purchase an array of supplies & equipment including seeds, soil, mulch, & germination trays, to expand their production an additional 10,000 square feet. They anticipate that this will allow them to produce & distribute an additional 20,000 pounds of vegetables in 2023.

Meet 2023 FGCF Grantee, Garden-Raised Bounty (GRuB
Meet 2023 FGCF Grantee, Garden-Raised Bounty (GRuB), a 3-acre non-profit farm in Olympia, WA. GRuB empowers youth and young adults, aged 16-24, who have left school early, offering hands-on outdoor education & employment support. In 2022, they donated 85% of their to local hunger relief programs, while providing food shares to their youth to take home. 

With their grant, GRuB will be able to purchase a number of native fruiting plants and trees, as well as relocate & expand their perennial berry production. They'll also improve weed management with the purchase of a new steam weeder, which heats & treats any noxious plant parts before they go into their compost system, allowing for the weeds to be re-incorporated onsite, rather than offsite at the dump.

Meet 2023 Grantee, Endigo's Herbals & Organics, a
Meet 2023 Grantee, Endigo's Herbals & Organics, a 1-acre woman-of-color-run farm in Dayton, OH that uses regenerative practices to grow squash, tomatoes, greens (collards, mustard, kale), onions, peppers, okra, swiss chard, green beans, & cucumbers. 
.
Its grant will be used to purchase equipment to transition growing areas to low/no-till will improve the health of the soil and prevent erosion, which leads to healthier produce & greater yields. They'll also add a cold storage unit to allow for proper storage of harvested crops, ensuring those they serve receive the freshest produce possible.

Meet 2023 Grantee, Crabtree Farms, a 22-acre commu
Meet 2023 Grantee, Crabtree Farms, a 22-acre community urban farm located in Chattanooga, TN that is committed to food access, education, & sustainable agriculture. The farm itself offers year-round opportunities for community members to gain experience & knowledge in various aspects of sustainable agriculture & gardening. In this way, the farm serves as an incubator & support system for burgeoning farmers.

Their grant will be used to further develop the shared field space at Crabtree Farms’ Community Garden which will help create new habitats for pollinators, address field saturation challenges, improve overall soil health & biodiversity, & bolster community involvement through a collaborative design process.

👋 🌱 Say hello to another 2023 Grantee, ContemPLATE - an 84-acre, non-profit farm, based in Sterling, CT that provides access to farm-based therapies for underserved demographics, like veterans & first responders, while also providing educational mentorship for at-risk youth. 
.
Their FGCF grant will help them improve their pollination program by purchasing five new colonies of honeybees from a neighboring farm & establish an edible pollinator hedgerow filled with flowering plants, trees, & shrubs that will support pollinators year-round as well as provide crops. 🌎

Please welcome another 2023 grantee, Brooks' Famil
Please welcome another 2023 grantee, Brooks' Family Farm– a 7-acre, multi-generational, family-owned & operated meat goat farm in Starkville, MS. The farm is located in the center of a large multi-ethnic community for whom goat meat is culturally relevant. The farm currently donates meat & provides educational opportunities to gain knowledge about goat farming. 
.
With their FGCF grant, they will be able to upgrade their barn facilities with essential equipment & supplies such as a trimming stand, freestanding starter pens, & a livestock scale, as well as essential signage and supplies for group visits & farm tours.
