Thanks-Giving Not Thanks-Taking
The idea of Giving Tuesday started back in 2012. The idea was launched as a direct response to the growing commercialism of the end-of-year holiday season. In a direct counterpoint to the Black Friday and then Cyber Monday sales, Giving Tuesday encourages people to think about how to give to others rather than consumerism. This year Giving Tuesday is November 29th.
Technology companies Mashable, Skype and Cisco were among the first to offer support to the United Nations Foundation and 92nd Street Y founded project, with it raising around $10,000,000 dollars in its first year. Last yearβs Giving Tuesday raised over $160,000,000 with even more expected in 2016.
Giving Tuesday & Funding The Community
As you probably already know, The FruitGuys Community Fund focuses on helping small and independent farms all across the U.S. Small family farms need our help to improve their environmental and economic sustainability. The FruitGuys Community Fund is unique in that we provide small grants (typically between $2,000 – $5,000) that have big impacts for farms. You can see our grants in action, seeing how local growers use much-needed funds to invest in projects like irrigation, soil management and pollinator support (beehives).
So this Giving Tuesday we ask for your financial support. Monies directly fund projects that preserve America’s independent and family-run farms.
