Sacramento March 6, 7 & 8
It’s almost time for the 2016 California Small Farm Conference! We’re looking forward to this annual event, gathering together with other sustainability and food advocates at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Sacramento in early March. It’s a unique opportunity for small, independent farmers to network, listen to industry leaders on the latest field techniques and grow (pun intended) their business.
Supporting California’s Independent Farmers
Independent farmers, farmer’s market managers, agricultural researchers and students, as well as food advocates, assemble each year to learn about the growing techniques, trends and issues related to growing good in the Golden State. The conference focuses on several tracks, including:
- Farm Management
- Marketing
- Certified Farmers’ Market
- Production
- Emerging Issues
Attendees can choose from a variety of workshops, field courses and keynote presentations. Interested in making a major capital purchase for your farm this year? Or weighing the costs and benefits of getting your organic certification? There are so many sessions to choose from; be sure to check out the latest California Small Farm Conference workshop schedule. If you’re looking for some hands-on demonstrations, Sunday has five field courses offering onsite education at local farms, production facilities and farmers markets.
This Year’s Keynote Speakers
One of the most beloved and best-known food writers will address the California Small Farm Conference. Mark Bittman writes for The New York Times, has starred in several popular TV series, including the Emmy-winning Years of Living Dangerously. Be sure to attend his keynote on Monday, March 7 at 9:15am.
On Tuesday, March 8, Nicole Rogers will moderate a panel discussion. Nicole oversees the Farm-to-Fork initiative, helping ranchers, chefs, restaurateurs showcase the Sacramento region’s unique agricultural and culinary delights.
